Start with the complete signal path

A USB-C connection can carry different combinations of data, video and power depending on the source and destination devices. Before selecting a cable, document the source device, destination device, required distance, video expectations, USB data requirement and whether power delivery is part of the workflow.

Confirm directional video requirements

Many active optical USB-C products use a directional video path even when USB data communication is bi-directional. Installation teams should identify Source and Display connector orientation before pulling cable through conduits or ceiling spaces.

Check endpoint capability—not only the connector

A USB-C connector does not automatically guarantee DisplayPort Alt Mode, a particular USB data rate or a specific power-delivery profile. System designers should verify the capabilities of both endpoints before finalizing the bill of materials.

Plan the route before installation

Active optical construction is valuable for longer runs and challenging environments, but bend radius, pulling method, connector protection and service access remain important. Coordinate cable routes with containment, equipment racks and display mounting locations.

Commission the full workflow

After installation, test data, video and power functions separately and together. Record the final endpoint models and operating mode so future support teams have a clear commissioning reference.
